Governor's EMS and Trauma Advisory Council

In 1999, Sunset legislation authorized the establishment of the Governor’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) to advise and make recommendations on developing and implementing Texas Emergency Healthcare System rules. The Governor appoints the council members.

Vision: A unified, comprehensive, and effective Emergency Healthcare System.

Mission: To promote, develop, and advance an accountable, patient-centered Trauma and Emergency Healthcare System.

Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council Appointments

Positions on the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) are appointed by the Governor of Texas. To apply for an appointed position, you must submit an application through the Office of the Governor. Texas Pediatric Readiness Education Series

The Texas Pediatric Readiness Improvement Project is a collaborative effort endorsed by the Governor’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) to improve pediatric outcomes and support rural trauma centers in meeting the proposed Texas trauma rules slated to become effective in September 2024.

These 1-hour virtual sessions will highlight evidence-based practices and resources for adoption in the emergency department, review standardized simulation cases, and integrate opportunities to engage in pediatric quality improvement efforts. The education series is available at no cost.
