Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council

On September 1, 2025, H.B. 3801 89th Regular Session, 2025, abolished the Statewide Health Coordinating Council.

A Healthy Texas is a Productive Texas

The Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council (SHCC) was a 17-member council. Thirteen members were appointed by the governor, and four were ex-officio members from state agencies. Chapters 104 and 105 of the Health and Safety Code were the enabling statutes of the SHCC.

The broad purpose of the SHCC was to ensure that health care services and facilities were available to all citizens in an orderly and economical manner. The SHCC made recommendations to the governor and the legislature via the Texas State Health Plan (SHP). The SHP was issued every six years and updated biennially. The SHP and its updates were due by November 1 of each even-numbered year.

The SHCC had statutory oversight of the Health Professions Resource Center and the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies. It also had one statutorily mandated advisory committee, the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies Advisory Committee.
