Border Infectious Disease Surveillance

The Border Infectious Disease Surveillance (BIDS), coordinated by the CDC Division of Global Migration Health's (DGMH) partners with the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission to improve health and quality of life along the U.S.-Mexico border.

BIDS in Region 9/10 partners with federal state, local, and non-government organizations (NGO) to enhance surveillance activities and improve preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks. Border Epidemiology and Surveillance Team

In 2006, the Office of Border Health OBH (Now Office of Border Public Health, OBPH) and other DSHS programs formed the Border Epidemiology and Surveillance Team (BEST) for the purpose of strengthening epidemiology and surveillance capacity in the Paso del Norte region by identifying issues, interests, and challenges.  Today, this workgroup also focuses on bi-national public health issues. The BEST workgroup meets quarterly and responsibility is shared between four jurisdictions in the Paso del Norte region.

Ysleta del Sur Pueblo (YDSP, "the Tiguas") is one of three federally recognized Native American tribes and the only Pueblo in the State of Texas located in Ysleta, Texas within El Paso County.  The YDSP Public Health Division has incorporated into the Border Epidemiology Surveillance Team.
