Laboratory Services

The laboratory services of mycobacteriology and mycology are provided through the Microbiology Sciences Branch of the Laboratory Services Section, Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS). The Mycobacteriology and Mycology Group is divided into two laboratories:

• Tuberculosis Clinical Laboratory
• Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory  

These laboratories identify Mycobacterium species and other aerobic actinomycetes from clinical specimens and from cultures referred on growth media to TDSHS. Identification work is also performed on referred fungal cultures. Susceptibility testing is performed on Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium kansasii
