The Texas Department of State Health Services invites abstracts for oral and poster presentations for the 2025 Healthcare Safety Conference, sponsored by the Office of the Chief State Epidemiologist’s Healthcare Safety Unit.

The annual conference gathers healthcare and public health professionals across Texas to collaborate and share multidisciplinary topics such as: healthcare safety, infection prevention and control, interesting case studies or assessments, health equity, safety improvement, training and education, emerging public health threats, and/or Project Firstline application.

Target Audience: Infection control practitioners, quality improvement and patient safety professionals, epidemiologists, data analysts, medical professionals, healthcare administrators, health professions students, and/or other public health partners.

How to Submit: Submit the online form by 11:59 pm Central Daylight Time (CDT) Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

• 300 words maximum
• Use complete sentences
• Please do not use bulleted lists, tables, or figures
• Proofread for typographical and grammatical errors
• Spell out or define all acronyms and/or abbreviations at first use (even acronyms considered common by the author). Acronyms in title are acceptable if spelled out or defined upon first use in the abstract
• Only one author per presentation should submit the abstract (i.e., each author does not submit a separate abstract; designate primary author who lists any/all additional authors in online submission form)
• Must be based on finalized data collection and analyses, not left open to subsequent data collection or speculation
• Presentations cannot be used to market products

Abstract Selection Process:

A Healthcare Safety Unit committee reviews abstracts to decide which are accepted for presentation. Reviewers blinded to author names.

Authors of all selected poster abstracts will virtually pre-record their presentations. Poster presentations will be available for viewing throughout the conference. Due to the hybrid conference, recordings are required to accommodate virtual attendees, but presenters are encouraged to present in person. A few select abstracts will also be selected for oral presentation.

Authors will be notified via email whether their abstract is selected by Friday, May 9, 2025. If the abstract is selected, the email will include the presentation date, time, type (oral or poster), and delivery method (in person and/or virtual pre-recorded). If the abstract is selected as a poster presentation, the email will include pre-recording details.
