  • Specimen should be maintained between 2 – 8 °C. 
  • Do not freeze.
  • Do not use preservatives or transport media.
  • Ship in a clean, dry, sealable container.

Specimen Labeling
  • At least two patient-specific identifiers required on specimen (e.g., patient full name, date of birth, Medical record number).
  • Three unique patient identifiers are preferred. 
  • Patient identifiers on specimen label must exactly match identifiers on submission form. (e.g., abbreviated name on label and full name on form is not acceptable.)

Shipping and Specimen Handling Requirements
  • Ship refrigerated at 2–8°C on cold packs for overnight delivery.
  • Use multiple cold packs to keep specimen cold for up to 48 hours.
  • Ship according to Dangerous Goods Regulations, IATA, and/or CFR 49.
  • Category B Biological Substance, UN3373 shipping requirements apply.
  • Handle as an infectious agent, triple pack and use universal precautions. 
  • Submitters are responsible for packaging and shipping specimens according to regulatory requirements.

Interferences/Limitations

Heme from hemoglobin interferes with PCR in this assay. From hemoglobin interferes with PCR in this assay.

Common Causes for Rejection
  • Insufficient specimen volume
  • Mismatch(es) between patient identifiers on G-2B submission form and specimen label 
  • Bloody stool
  • Dried stool
  • Stored in transport media or preservatives.
  • Improper storage conditions.
  • Failure to meet submission/shipping guidelines.
  • Missing/incomplete/illegible submission form.
Additional Information PCR test may be paired with bacteriological culture.
