West Texas

DSHS West Texas Public Health Region (PHR) 9/10 covers more than 86,000 square miles across 35 counties, making it the largest public health region in the state. The area includes a mix of art communities, oil and gas fields, ranches and desert landscapes. A large part of the region falls along the Texas-Mexico border. About 5.6 million people cross the border every year to work, shop, and visit loved ones.

This part of Texas has unique challenges because of its size and diverse landscape. To tackle these challenges, DSHS West Texas staff build strong relationships with community partners. Together, we provide access to health services, disaster relief and more.
