Tell Zika to Buzz Off This Summer

As you plan your summer vacations and outdoor activities, make sure to protect yourself from those menacing mosquitoes—they are hiding where you least expect it. The best protection to avoid the Zika virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses is to prevent mosquito breeding and bites. Texans, especially pregnant women, should continue to follow these simple steps to protect themselves from Zika:

  • Apply EPA-approved insect repellent.
  • Wear pants and long-sleeve shirts.
  • Use screens or close windows and doors.
  • Remove standing water in and around your home.
  • Cover trash cans or containers where water can collect.
  • During pregnancy, avoid travel to regions where the Zika virus is active.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have concerns.
