Organism, Causative agent, Etiologic agent

Ascariasis is caused by parasitic helminths or worms (commonly known as the small intestine roundworm). They have the scientific classification Ascaris lumbricoides and Ascaris suum. Both are parasitic worms in the phylum Nematoda. Ascaris lumbricoides is found in humans. Ascaris suum is most commonly found in pigs and can complete its lifecycle in humans. Ascaris lumbricoides is the most prevalent soil-transmitted helminth in the world.
